Fashion jewelry becomes fashionable through many different ways. For example, the aesthetics of a piece may fit with current philosophies of a time. When more ornate and complicated ideas are valued, the jewelry tends to reflect that. On the other hand, more simple ornamental designs can reflect more minimal focuses. Today, eco-friendly choices can be very popular as they fit with the more environmentally-oriented mindset of current culture.

Another way through which fashion jewelry is if a celebrity is seen wearing it. This can happen as part of the celebrity's own style when he or she is seen in candid photos or during special events. Something can also catch on because of the image a celebrity is being paid to present, as a character in a film or during promotional photo shoots.

Fashion jewelry can have many different focuses. Sometimes, the part which is desirable is the material that is being used. At other times, the brand or name behind the design is what matters. Still other times, the aesthetic concept is all that counts.
