Gold Chain

A gold chain is a versatile jewelry option. Chain necklaces have been worn for thousands of years. In fact, archaeologists have discovered such things as mollusks, claws, teeth, stone, and bones strung together in styles assumed to be worn around the neck. When the attractive and malleable precious metal known as gold was discovered, it is no surprise that it too was used in chain designs.

Jewelry items created with this metal, such as the gold chain, are known to have been created in Ancient Egypt. During this time, the dead were often buried with such items, allowing for their existence to be well-documented. Such jewelry is also known to have existed long ago in the region today recognized as Iraq.

The gold chain today is much more widely available than it was during these earlier times. However, it still remains a prized and valued accessory, whether used for necklaces, bracelets, belts, anklets, or any other ornamental application. They may be worn simply as a chain, or they may be embellished with pendants or other charms.
