Gold Jewelry FAQs

Can gold be used for body piercings?

Yes, it can. However, it is important that the gold be of no lesser karatage than 14k. It is also just as important that the jewelry not simply be gold-plated. This is because the other metals alloyed with the gold may tarnish or cause negative reactions due to toxicity.

How is rose gold made?

The reddish color of rose gold is achieved by alloying gold with copper. Other terms for which the type may be known include red, pink, and Russian gold. That latter term arose due to the fact that it was popular in Russia during the early 1800s. However, the dated use of that term has also lead to it becoming less common.

What is electrum?

This is an alloy of gold and silver. It may also have trace amounts of copper and other metals. The significant quality associated with electrum is that it is naturally occurring. However, it has also been artificially produced in more recent times.
